In a world that is so instantaneous, waiting 6-8 weeks for my first copy of The Magnolia Journal to arrive was excruciating. Joanna had posted on her Facebook page that the spring edition had just been released. Her post was filled with subscribers who had already received their latest copy and were raving about the content and my expected delivery date was not until April 3, NO!!! To my surprise, I received my first edition of The Magnolia Journal on Monday, weeks ahead of schedule.
My love for Joanna Gaines is strong. I adore her commitment to her family, Christ, and work. She is a breath of fresh air. I look forward to watching, reading, and following her. To some degree, I feel as though she is my accountability partner to be the best version of myself.
It had been years since I last subscribed to a magazine. Years! It was so fun to receive something in the mail other than bills! Here is a breakdown of my thoughts on the magazine...
- PAPER QUALITY: I love paper! The feel of a magazine is just as important as the content in my opinion. The cover is thick and I am grateful for this. I want a cover to last as it is being put in and out of my bags. The inside paper is thicker than a standard magazine. Finally a magazine that should prevent page tears.
- CONTENT: I found the content to be outstanding. It appears that every issue has a theme. "Intentionality" was the theme of this issue. Articles such as: The Art of Letter Writing, Time Well Spent, & Dinner, the Most Important Meal of the Day... fit beautifully into this issue.
- RECIPES: As I have stated a time or two, I am a really bad cook. Regardless of my ability, I have made a pledge to try out every recipe in each issue. The recipes appear to be simplistic in their ingredients and complexity. I might just be able to pull them off, I will keep you posted!
- ADVERTISEMENTS: I may be in the minority, but I do not mind advertisements when ad placement and ad type make sense. I While flipping through the magazine, I did not hate one ad. The ads were correct for the type of consumer that would be reading, The Magnolia Journal. Bravo, JoJo! The thing I dislike most about advertisements in traditional magazines are those stinkin' post card subscription inserts that ALWAYS fall out onto the floor. Joanna must have a similar dislike for them, because there are none in her magazine.
- GRAPHICS: The images in this issue are beautiful and very pleasing to the eye.
The cost of a yearly subscription to The Magnolia Journal is $20.00 and includes 4 issues. The only negative I have, is that it only comes out 4 times a year. Thank you for reading this review and if you are interested in subscribing to The Magnolia Journal, Click Here.
I love receiving things in the mail too. Well other then bills and junk!! Magazines are great. It is a shame this one only comes 4 times a year 😥
